What is MGF?
MGF (Mechano Growth Factor) is a splice variant of IGF-1 that is produced locally in muscle tissue in response to mechanical stress (exercise). It is the primary signal that activates muscle satellite cells (stem cells) to proliferate and fuse with damaged muscle fibers, driving hypertrophy and repair. PEG-MGF is a pegylated version with extended half-life for systemic use.
Mechanism of Action
MGF binds to a unique receptor distinct from the IGF-1 receptor, activating satellite cell proliferation and differentiation. It upregulates MyoD and myogenin (muscle differentiation genes), promotes protein synthesis via mTOR, and has neuroprotective effects. The pegylated form (PEG-MGF) has a half-life of ~3 days vs ~minutes for native MGF.
MGF Dosing Protocol
MGF: 200–400 mcg intramuscular injection into the trained muscle immediately post-workout, 2–3 times per week. PEG-MGF: 200–400 mcg subcutaneous 2–3 times per week (systemic). Cycle: 4–6 weeks, then 4 weeks off.
